Artist Statement
In these works, I am exploring nature which I see as mysterious and ethereal. I want to take my subjects beyond reality. I use a watercolor-like acrylic painting style to accomplish a graceful feeling while maintaining details that are specific to the species of plant or insect. I hope that, when viewers see my artwork, they are able to feel nature connecting us to the universe.
Artist Biography
Deborah (Allee) Brand was born in Dallas, TX and grew up in a rural setting full of wildflowers, butterflies and fireflies. She studied at the University of Texas at Arlington where she received her B.F.A. in painting in 2004. During her study, she became aware of her unique love of nature which is reflected in every piece she creates.
In the years that followed, she grew more interested in the intangible qualities of the subjects she found in the natural world. Gardening and photography became pursuits that inspired her to see the extraordinary in what is often overlooked. In her work, she attempts to represent the mysteries of our universe, exploring cycles of death, destruction, birth, renewal, and the beauty that remains throughout this constant state of change.
Her work has been exhibited in local, regional and national exhibits and is included in the collections of fellow artists and art collectors.
